Trivia

  • This was the semi final of the Glasgow Cup played on a Monday night at Celtic Park. Celtic had already bounced Rangers out with a comprehensive 4-0 win at Ibrox in the first round. Queen's Park had knocked Third Lanark out after two replays.
  • Tommy Gemmell, Joe McBride, John Clark and Jimmy Johnstone were selected to play for Scotland against Wales on the 22nd October in Cardiff.

Review

The classic amateurs put up no more than token resistance but it was a chance to field some of the periphery players whilst at the same time taking the competition seriously. Bent Martin was in goal and Ian Young got a start at right back with Tommy Gemmell switching to his old left back position. Charlie Gallacher also got a start. Jimmy Johnstone entertained the crowd and was unlucky not to score twice. Bent |Martin had little to do in the Celtic goal but Neil audaciously tried to lob him when he ventured too far from his goal line. McBride showed exactly why he had been selected for Scotland with a class centre forward display completely bamboozling two defenders for his second goal.
