Review
Celtic complete the first part of their historic 1966-67 all-conquering campaign with a narrow win over traditional rivals Rangers retaining the League Cup they had won the previous season.
A packed Hampden crowd saw Celtic beat Rangers in a tight game. Celtic had been odds on favourites to win the game before kick off. Celtic's goal was fit to win the final. Auld floated the ball to the back post and McBride nodded it back towards goal where Lennox ran full pelt to blast the ball home without breaking stride.
Celtic did not find it easy against a Rangers side that fought doggedly. Hughes was injured at the start of the second half and was subbed by Chalmers.
It was a long second half for Celtic as they faced a Rangers onslaught but the defence and keeper Simpson were outstanding on the day. Willie O'Neill was Celtic's hero late on with a vital goal line clearance when Simpson was beaten.
Rangers played well but Celtic proved they now had the resolve to withold heavy pressure and come out on top.
