• On the 26th April Kilmarnock beat Lokomotiv Leipzig 2-0 to progress to the semi finals of the Fairs Cup. This put three Scottish representatives in the final stages of all three European trophies this season and would represent a real footballing achievement in any terms for such a small nation to compete on terms with all the European greats.
• Celtic delayed naming the team till late Friday. However when the announcement was made it came as no surprise that there were no changes to the line-up that had drawn with Dukla Prague.
• A huge crowd turned up at Hampden for the game. Contrary to the Hampden hoodoo, Aberdeen took the ‘home’ dressing room but the ‘liucky’ dressing room failed to work its magic.
• Aberdeen manager Eddie Turnbull suddenly taken unwell on the morning of the match and cannot attend the game.
• Ronnie Simpson is a cup winner at 36 years old.
• Third trophy Celtic have won this season – only two to go – League and European Cup.
• Simpson, Craig, Johnstone and Wallace win their first Scottish cup medal.

Review

Willie Wallace was the hero of the hour with two splendid goals.
The goals were similar, both good finishes from cut backs from the bye line from firstly Lennox and then Johnstone.
With Murdoch and Auld in control in midfield Celtic were always on the front foot.

Simpson was emotional at the end after winning the player of the year award and now his first Scottish cup final at the age of 36.
