It was on 3 August 1967 – a closed door game. Brief preview with teamline in Evening Times against ‘mystery opposition’, and confirmed as being Albion Rovers on 4 August:
- Note, the match wasn’t really advertised, a secret warm up but was revealed the next day in papers about the match.
- Celtic also played another friendly v Cowdenbeath, 7/8/67 – Cowdenbeath v Celtic. Joe McBride played. Cowdenbeath 1 – Andy Rolland. Celtic 1 -Jim Taylor own-goal.
- Press & Journal, 2/8/67 3 full practice matches before 9/8/67, behind closed doors, not at Parkhead or Barrowfield, players won’t know when or where until they report for training.
