Review
This convincing win meant that some of the first team regulars could expect to be rested for the second leg of this League Cup quarter final. Bobby Lennox opened the scoring in the eleventh minute and added a second 11 minutes later before Jinky got his pair. Bobby Murdoch and Pat McMahon added further goals. Ayr had their best spell at the start of the second half when they pulled it back to 3-2 with the Celtic defence looked shaky. However Celtic stepped up a gear with Jinky, Bobby and Pat putting it beyond doubt.
