- Stirling Albion's Annfield ground was developing a bit of a bogey reputation for Celtic. The previous season they had drawn 1-1 their in a muddy debacle, and the season before that they had lost 1-0.
- Jock Stein reverted to the normal team having rested a number of players from the Ayr Utd Legue Cup second leg. Jimmy Johnstone was still out in purdah.
- Jock Stein himself made the game despite being laid up with 'flu for the two days before.
- The kick off was delayed to allow the press of people to get in for the start.
- In the Reserve League on the same day Celtic Reserves were at home to Stirling Albion Reserves and beat them 5-0. The Celtic scorers were Quinn (4) and Clarke.
Review
Celtic had the monopoly of attacking certainly in the first hand but it took till just before the half time whistle for Wallace to open the scoring. In the second half, playing up the infamous Annfield hill, Celtic's luck changed. Bertie Auld added a brace and Bobby Lennox chipped in with a single goal.
