- Bertie Auld who had missed the previous game against Hearts with a heavy cold, was back in training on the Tuesday. All the players were reported fit and ready for the game.
- On Friday the Clyde manager Archie Wright resigned due to health problems.
- Back in came Bertie Auld recovered from his 'flu. Jock Stein went ahead with the trial he had been hinting at and Joihn Hughes went to centre forward. This meant Stevie Chalmers sitting this one out on the bench.
- Long queues outside prevent fans from seeing the beginning of the game. Some of them missed the first two goals of the game.
Review
The result looks closer than it actually was as Celtic ran out fairly comfortable winners.
Stein changed his team with Hughes in at centre forward with Wallace dropping to midfield and the results were devastating with Hughes creating two terrific goals for Wallace. Billy McNeill opened the scoring with one of his textbook headers. This was quickly equalled by George McLean pulling the scores back level. Lennox, Johnstone and Wallace added further goals to put Celtic comfortably ahead 4-2 at half time. When Wallace added a fifth in the second half it looked like it was all over. With Celtic 5-2 up they let up and Dundee snatched two late goals to make the score respectable.
On this form big Yogi was unplayable. However the late rally belied a certain underlying carelessness in the Celtic defense which gave away two late goals to give a wrong impression how the game had panned out.
