- The rumours were flying that Celtic were on the way to signing another player. Jock Stein made a bid to sign Jim Smith from Aberdeen during the week but was rebuffed (he did eventually come in 1975 as a loanee from Newcastle Utd). There was also a strong rumour that he was trying to entice Yugoslavian goalkeeper Zlato Skoric from Dinamo Zagreb who Stein had seen two years ago in a Friendly.
- The team was unchanged from the Airdrie game.
- The start of the game was delayed to allow the queues of spectators to get in. A 'durty' day for football with cold howling wind and rain for much of the game.
- Six minutes from half time the wind, which was strong all game, blew a 20 yard stretch of guttering off the enclosure stand down onto the spectators below. One girl was taken to hospital and a number of people treated by First Aid attendants.
Review
Falkirk were tough opponents – more than the 3-0 score line gives the rub for. They fought hard through the first half so that Celtic just had the penalty scored by Gemmell after a handball decision which looked more a case of ball-to-hand, to show for their efforts even with the wind in their favour.
