Trivia
- Celtic arranged another Friendly for the 13th August at Falkirk with East Stirling. This was primarily to give the players who had not played against Rangers an outing and in order for Jock Stein to assess the scope of back-up and reserve players as well as first team players. Fallon, Craig, Chalmers, McBride, Gallacher and Auld would definetly start. (when there is enough definitive information a full game page will be made). Gallacher injured his ankle in the Friendly
- The only casualty from the Rangers game was Billy McNeill with a leg knock. However it was light enough that he was able to resume training after a spell on the treatment table.
- The team was announced for this game before the Friendly at Falkirk with either John Clark or Lou Macari on the subs bench. Macari took the spot.
- Morton were unchanged from the side that had been beaten by Partick Thistle in their opening game. For Morton, both Sweeney and Taylor were ex-Celtic. Jim Kennedy, ex-Celt and the previous season's captain had been released by Morton at the end of the last season and had trained with the Celts during pre-season. Their sub was Joe Harper who had just returned to Morton after an unsuccessful time with Huddersfield Town
Review
The report makes a point of the extra speed and attacking ability that Jim Brogan brought at left halkf, that John Clark. Clark acted more as a sweeper role rarely venturing past the half way line and always ready and there to help the defense. Brogan was more attack-minded.
Sweeney and Rankin were booked for Morton and Murdoch for Celtic.
