- Seven Celtic players were chosen for the Scottish League side to play the League of Ireland in Dublin – Simpson, Gemmell, Murdoch, Johnstone, Lennox, Wallace and Hughes.
- Ronnie Simpson was out after the Rangers game. He injured a leg and had not recovered sufficiently. In came John Fallon. Lennox, who had taken a lot of bruising tackles against injured recovered in time for this game.
- On the same day Celtic Reserves were at home to Dundee United Reserves and defeated them 4-1. The Celtic scorers were McBride 2, Macari and Jim Clarke. The Celtic team was Wraith, Craig, Gorman, Dalglish, Clarke, Clark, Wilson, McBride, Chalmers, Macari, Clarke. Sub McGrain.

Celtic were now definitely qualified for the Quarter Finals. A superb demonstration of what Celtic were as a team at this time – tight, mobile and working together as a team.
