Trivia
- Bobby Murdoch was still out but making a more rapid recovery than had at first been thought possible. Willie O'Neill had recovered from his head knock and Wallace was pretty much fit. Celtic delayed naming the team however, and it wasn't till just before kick off that it was announced. Lou Macari was given his first full start with the first team with George Connelly rested. Stevie Chalmers was also given a start too and Jim Craig continued at the back.
- Steve Chalmers and Bobby Lennox score an incredible 5 goals each.
- Lamont in the Hamilton goal was a fully qualified referee and probably felt like taking on a black uniform after this game.
Review
Bit of a walkover really. It was 4-0 at half time and 5-0 when Jimmy Johnstone came on for John Hughes to inflict more damage into Hamilton.
The team didn't exactly play well for the first 20 minutes but as soon as Chalmers got the first it was all go.
