- Celtic had three injuries from the St Mirren game receiving treatment during the week. Jimmy Johnstone injured a knee, Tommy Gemmell (leg and groin strain) and John Hughes (groin strain) all looked as though they they would be touch and go to make the game at the start of the week.
- Bobby Murdoch played for Scotland in a World Cup qualifier on the Wednesday night against Cyprus, winning 5-0. The bold Bobby scored two goals.
- Ice and fog hit Scotland on the Friday night and the pitch was frozen but, in the view of the referee, playable.
- All three injured players recovered to make the team though Jimmy Johnstone needed a last minute fitness test. The same 12 were picked with Wallace starting this time and Chalmers on the bench.
- Cesare Maldini from AC Milan was in the Brockville stand to spy on Celtic for the forthcoming European Cup ties.
- The Reserves played Falkirk Reserves in the Reserve League Cup semi final. The team was Simpson, McGrain, Gorman, Hay, Connelly, Auld, Wilson, Davidson, Wuinn, McMahon, Macari. They won 2-1.
Review
Celtic applied all the pressure in this game but just could not put the ball away. There were close misses all the time. Both teams struggled on the icy, slippery pitch.
For a team so close to the bottom of the table Falkirk played well.
