Trivia

  • The draw was made on the Monday for the Scottish Cup semi finals with Celtic drawn against Morton at home and Rangers drawn away to Killie or Aberdeen setting up a potential final against Rangers.
  • Charlie Gallacher made his comeback with the Reserves in a Friendly game at Motherwell. He had been out for some time having undergone a cartilage operation.
  • Billy McNeill injured an ankle in the cup game against St Johnstone but was fit for this game. Bobby Lennox was rested and back in came Tommy Callaghan from the bench spot he'd been occupying for the last couple of games. Back fit again was Jim Brogan with John Clark dropping out.

Outside of football, Reggie and Ronnie Kray were sent down for 30 years a piece.

Review

Jimmy Johnstone and John Hughes put on a show between them as Celtic fielded a strong side against bottom of the league Arbroath. Celtic scored four in a nine minute spell. Jimmy Johnstone set up three of those and got the fourth with a brilliant solo goal which left 5 Arbroath players in his wake.
John Hughes turned on the style in the second half with only Tommy Callaghan failing to get on the score sheet of the forwards. Bertie Auld replaved Bobby Murdoch half way through the second half.
