Trivia
- On the same day, at Broomfield, Celtic Reserves beat Airdrie Reserves 3-0. The Celtic scorers were Macari, McMahon and Callaghan.
Review
In a hard fought game, Celtic dropped a point at home but were still 5 points ahead at the top with three games to play. They would have to lose all three and Rangers win all three to lose the Championship.
Celtic were awarded a penalty somewhat controversially when Black collided with Jimmy Johnstone. Gemmell made no mistake from the spot to put Celtic in front at the interval.
Airdrie fought back in the second half and scored twice to go in front. Bobby Lennox equalised for Celtic.
In the last minute Billy McNeill had the ball in the net only to be ruled offside by the linesman, after initially being given by the referee, with clearly two players between the ball and goal.
