- John Hughes return to the first team was short lived having injured a leg against Basle. Steve Chalmers was dropped to the bench and back in came Harry Hood with Davie Hay moved up front to inside left and Jim Craig restored to the right back spot.
- The injured list was Murdoch (flu), Auld (leg), Hughes (leg), Connelly (flu), Callaghan (boil).

- In the 67th minute Johnston and Craig chased the ball unavailingly to the touchline and the winger was in the process of retrieving it for the throw in when he was tackled from behind. Review
The first half was tight with, if anything Rangers shading it but unable to put the ball in the net. Celtic started the second half much better and Hood scored when McNeill cleared long, Hood collected, turned neatly and fired past Neef.
Tiny Wharton, however, was the star, booking Hay, Brogan and Jardine as well as sending off Jim Craig.
