Trivia
- Though the game wasn't all ticket both sets of fans were under strict instructions to keep it clean. Banners and 'unsavoury' songs would not be tolerated. Cans and bottles were confiscated so what got in had to be smuggled in.
- As expected Tommy Gemmell and Jimmy Johnstone came back into the team.
- Willie Waddell's first derby game as Rangers' boss.
- McNeill goal in 44 minutes controversially disallowed for interfering with Rangers' keeper Gerry Neef.
- Rangers failed to sign Aberdeen 'keeper Bobby Clark before the game but Bobby Watson refused to go to Pittodrie in exchange.
Review
A frost hard pitch despite all the covering. This was one of the least entertaining of the Glasgow Derbies in the period. Evan Williams played well in goal. McKinnon for Rangers and Jim Brogan were booked. The crowd were well behaved throughout despite a seemingly good goal being chalked off.
