- Immediately after the game against Rangers on the 3rd, the Scottish Cup draw was made. Celtic were drawn against Dunfermiline at home.
- Snow hit Scotland on the 4th January followed by a bitter freeze. The Celtic game away to Partick Thistle on 10th January was postponed with the pitch unplayable.
- The possibility of a knockout competition between clubs north and south of the border for the following season began to be discussed.
- The Reserves met on the 15th with a team of Fallon, Craig, McGrain, Dalglish, Connelly, Cattanach, Callaghan, Davidson, Quinn, Lennox, Macari, Wilson. Of these only Danny McGrain, Vic Davidson and Paul Wilson had yet to make first team debuts.
- An unchanged side for Celtic; for Hibs Arthur Duncan made his debut having just signed from Partick Thistle, with Hibs also having sold Peter Marinello to Arsenal for £100,000.

Review
The game started 10 minutes late despite appeals for the fans to turn up early. The Bhoys started at a tremendous pace and put a lot of pressure on the Hibs goal. Billy McNeill put Celtic in front with a header from a Bertie Auld free kick when Jimmy Johnstone had been brought down by Pat Stanton in the first half. Jimmy Johnstone came in for some heavy treatment by the Hibs defenders.
Hibs new signing levelled the score in the second half and John Hughes got the points for Celtic just before the end. Bobby Murdoch was subbed with a knee injury by Jim Craig.
