Trivia
- Celtic had been due to face Dundee at Dens Park on the 11th February, however the game was postponed when the pitch was frozen. The game on the Saturday at Celtic Park against Morton also fell foul of the weather. The squad trained on the Saturday with a view to this game on the Monday night.
- Steve Chalmers was back in training with the plaster off on his broken leg. Mostly this was muscle exercise to replace lost mass with the plaster on
- After an early morning inspection by the referees and both managers the pitch was declared playable and the match was on despite the park being heavily sanded.
- No team announcement was made till immediately before kick off.
Review
Those expecting to see a shock (with the Jags bottom of the League) were dumbfounded when Harry Hood scored after 12 minutes and Jimmy Johnstone returning to the side after his rest added a second two minutes later. Yet again Evan Williams had very little to do in goal. The Bhoys went three up when Tommy Gemmell blasted home a penalty after Jinky had been bundled over. Celtic were awarded a second penalty after the break when Wallace was similarly bundled over and again Gemmel swept home. Thistle pulled one back but in truth it was all one-way traffic and with 15 minutes remaining Lou Macari came on and scored in the last minute
