Trivia
- The draw was made for the next round of the Scottish Cup. Celtic got Dundee at home. So far they had been lucky to draw as the home side in each round. Aberdeen were drawn at home to Kilmarnock though both games would be played at neutral grounds – Celtic's at Hampden and Aberdeen's at Muirton Park, Perth.
- When those nicked in the Glasgow Derby Scottish Cup game appeared before the beaks the magistrate made a point of calling onj the SFA to bring the perpetrators of both sides to book. This was a return to the 50's and the calls to license the game following 'Old Firm' indiscipline. The SFA in contrast said it was up to the clubs concerned. 46 people had been lifted at the game – both inside and outside Celtic Park.
- Four had come away from the Cup game with injuries – Evan Williams (neck), Bobby Murdoch (back), John Hughes (ankle) and Willie Wallace. Willams and Wallace recovered. Davie Hay moved back to cover Bobby Murdoch's position and Harry Hood came in up front along with Lou Macari.
- This was a Wednesday night game. The kick off was delayed to allow the late comers to get in.
Review
McNeill's early goal came from a header from a Tommy Gemmell free kick. Celtic sauntered through the game after that. Fourteen minutes into the second half Tommy Gemmell hit one of his trademark scorchers. Bertie Auld came on for his first run out since injury back in January.
