Review
High flying Saints are second in the table but do not test Celtic on the day. Gemmell, Murdoch, Brogan and Hughes are all out injured so this was a good win with Wallace scoring a fine opportunist goal.
Jimmy Quinn when he came on played at right back with Hay moving forward.
A controversial game with two players – Tommy Callaghan and Argue of St Johnstone – carried off the field. Wallace's goal came when the ball broke to him from a melee and he shot home. The St Johnstone players all thought a foul should have been given. This led to them surrounding and 'man-handling' the referee who was persuaded to consult the linesman, which he did – and the goal stood.
