- The draw was made for the next round of the European Club in Paris on the Wednesday and Celtic were paired with Ajax with the first leg away. The home game was moved to Hampden Park.
- Celtic played the same team that had played in Moore's Testimonial. Falkirk had been promoted back to Division 1 at the beginning of the season and were on a good run having taken 12 points from their last 7 games. This was based on their strong defensive record, having conceded just two goals in those 7 games, and goal scoring from ex-Ranger Alex Ferguson.
- Harry Hood opened the Sherwood Hotel on the New Edinburgh Rd outside of Uddingston. His father had passed away on the 15th November and in a personal double catastophe, his mother would pass away on 4th December.
- The Reserves were in action at Celtic Park winning 1-0 against Falkirk Reserves with a team of Lally, McCluskey, Watt, Dalglish, McGrain, Clark, Chalmers, Macari, Davidson, Callaghan, White with J Davidson as sub. Having been second from bottom earlier in the season they had risen to now top the Reserve league.
- Jock Stein cannot fly to Amsterdam after the game to watch European opponents Ajax because of fog at Glasgow airport.
Review
Falkirk fought hard and on the day Celtic unusually ran out of ideas.
Murdoch missed their best chance in the second half and Falkirk also had their moments with Williams saving well on several occasions.
Celtic's lead at the top was now down to one point with this draw.
