Review
Celtic……..2-1……Hibs
Callaghan 35 Hood 49………Stanton 89
Attendance 28,000
The sombre atmosphere around Parkhead was due to a minutes silence for the Ibrox disaster seven days previously.
The gusting wind and driving rain added to the solemn mood of the fans and a respectable 28,000 crowd turned out.
Celtic, playing in all yellow, should have won by a four or five goal margin due to their dominance with Murdoch and McNeill reinstated to the side after missing the previous match at Ibrox. Referee Syme was reported to denying Celtic two great claims for penalties.
Tommy Callaghan was man of the match with a fine midfield display and scored the first goal with a looping header from a fine Hood cross and Hood himself scored the second after Tommy Gemmell had fired a free kick into the Hibs' box.
Inspirational Hibs' captain Pat Stanton scored at the death after Johnny Hamilton had hit the post and this gave the score a misleading respectability and young 18 year old right back John Brownlie earned rave reviews for his display.
Newspaper reports stated that John Hughes was now back in training after injury.
