Trivia
- The draw was made for the next round with Dunfermiline or Celtic drawn at home to either Clyde or Raith Rovers.
- Celtic played the essentially same team as the first game but kept everything under close wraps till the teams were announced at East End Park. This was partly due to conditions with heavy rain falling in Fife after frost. The pitch was playable but pretty waterlogged and heavy.
- East End Park packed to the rafters with 23,000 fans.
Review
Celtic returned to form and won more easily than the score suggests.
Far from being the wholesale changes that were promised after the first game, it was the pretty much the same team that took the park with Lennox in for Auld , who was on the subs bench. The difference was in the team layout playing 4 up front of Johnstone, Hood, Wallace and Lennox and a fluid half back and back line-up.
Johnstone was back in his more orthodox position on the right wing and was tremendous despite the heavy conditions. Hood, Lennox and Wallace were all to the fore.
Hood scored the winner with a fine shot after great build up work between Lennox and Wallace.
