Kenny Dalglish laid another marker down for inclusion as a regular in the first team by scoring four goals – two from the penalty spot – and hitting the post twice..
With Gemmell only coming on as a sub and missing a penalty, questions were now being asked if he would win a starting slot as full back having been elected as the best player in the world at left back just the previous season.
