- This was a match arranged to give the senior players a run out and to allow Jock Stein to try to figure out the best combination of youth and experience for the coming League Cup game against Rangers and for the rest of the season.
- The game was played at Lesser Hampden.
- The first goal scorer for Queen's Park was Malky Mackay senior. His son, also Malky, would begin playing part-time with Queen's Park too and would join Celtic
Review
This was a chance for the minimum experience to learn from the very experienced! Donald Watt was a young left back who had been signed from Shettleston HJuniors the previous season and had so far only played Reserve games. Jim Davidson was originally from Maryhill Juniors and was on the books full time this season having been provisional last. Billy McNeill moved to left half to accommodate him. In the second half Willie Wallace took a knock and Steve Hancock who had been signed to the club on an S-Form came on.
Lesser Hampden with 3,000 spectators crammed around it must have been quite a sight – and a chance to see 8 Lisbon Lions play.
