Review
An unchanged team for Celtic other than Dixie Deans starting and Lou Macari on the bench. The Bhoys received a resounding cheer from the support when they came out onto the park as if to say 'all is forgiven'. The team got a wake-up call when Motherwell scored first. They attacked back and won the first penalty when the ball was punched clear by McInally. Dixie Deans and Bobby Lennox added further goals to go in comfortably up 3-1 at half time.
McInally pulled a goal back after the interval but back came Celtic again. A second penalty for a foul in the box on Murdoch was similarly dispatched as the first and Dixie scored a second very good goal – probably the best of the lot – on seventy five minutes.

BOBBY SHOWS HOW IT’S DONE
By CYRIL HORNE
CELTIC …………….. 5 MOTHERWELL…………….. 2 (H T: 3-1) Scorers: Celtic—Murdoch (33 and 69 mins, both penalties). Deans (37, 75), Lennox (441/2). Motherwell—Muir (28) Mclnally (57).
SUPPORTERS of a football club—and I may pay them an undeserved compliment in describing them in such terms—sometimes do not deserve the team they have.
That criticism can fairly be made of thousands of those who saw Celtic convincingly beat Motherwell at Celtic Park yesterday.
Even before the match began a section of the Celtic support were chanting the name of "Dixie" Deans. The player who missed the vital penalty kick in midweek.
That was all very admirable if it was an attempt to boost the player's morale.
But when in the 33rd minute Bobby Murdoch, who was the best player on the field, prepared to take a Celtic penalty kick and some of the spectators chose to indicate their preference for Deans, the ultimate in bad manners was reached.
To his great credit Murdoch converted the kick, awarded for hands against Jackie Mclnally, as competently as Mazzola and company had done in the European Cup semi final.
Celtic could have been in trouble here, for Motherwell were leading through a 28th minute goal scored by "Jumbo" Muir after a George Connelly-inspired offside trap had failed to work.
Recovery
Murdoch again took Celtic out of bother when he scored a second penalty kick in 69 minutes, this time awarded when he himself was tripped.
At this time Motherwell had staged a recovery and Jackie Mclnally, with a splendid individual effort, had taken the score from 3-1 for Celtic to 3-2.
Deans had given Celtic the lead with a fine left-foot shot after a Tommy Callaghan "dummy" in the 37th minute had deceived the Well defence.
Then just on half-time Bobby Lennox had completed a magnificent move by Jim Craig and Ken Dalglish with a ground shot which gave ex-Celt John Fallon no chance.
Fifteen minutes from time Deans scored a fine second goal against his former club and consolidated his position as Celtic's leading scorer of the season with 25 goals.
I thought Motherwell got good service from Bobby Watson, Alec Martin and Jackie Mclnally in particular. The veteran forward was very unlucky to be booked for a foul on Pat McCluskey.
