League, Hampden (Decorators at CP), Sept 16, 1972. Kick off at 12 noon in an attempt to beat the bevvied-up nutters. Several times I have posted on KDS that this was the most one-sided Old Firm game I have ever seen, a view endorsed by other posters who were at the game. Celtic won 3-1, and this pic shows JJ scoring our second goal in 15 mins. He actually fell over the ball here, recovered, and stabbed the ball in while lying on the ground. Jinky, playing outside left, had laid on the first goal for Kenny D in two mins, and the rest of the game was like shootie-in. Deans, witrh an open goal to aim at, managed to batter the ball straight at Sandy Jardine and knock him over when he was standing helplessly on the line – other sitters were missed at regular intervals. Incredibly, only one more goal came our way, Macari typically nipping in to capitalise on Jardine’s slack back-pass. George Connelly played keepie-uppie in the second half, when no Rangers player could summon up the courage to step forward and be humiliated. I still have that day’s Green Citizen – the old Glasgow Saturday football paper – whose report left Rangers in no doubt that they had been hammered “Let no one be misled by the scoreline, least of all Rangers – it could have been 7 or 8”. Kinda says it all!
