  • This could be seen as a precursor to the Cup game due later in the month against Aberdeen.
  • Davie Hay proved to be the mystery injured player. In came Harry Hood.
  • Lennox waited 4 minutes to take penalty while Bobby Clark got treatment.
  • This was Lennox's first penalty as a Celt since his debut in 1962.

Review

Aberdeen spoiled the game as a spectacle with their defensive tactics and offside reliance.Celtic showed far more appetite for the game which Aberdeen did their best to spoil.
In 60 minutes Young handled Johnstone's goal bound shot and Lennox scored Celtic's first penalty in six attempts to the relief of the 38,000 home support. In 83 minutes Celtic killed the game when Aberdeen played offside, McGrain calmly dribbled his way through to lay an open goal for Dalglish with Clark stranded.
