Trivia
- The short tour moved on from Cork to Dublin. Game played at Milltown. Shamrock Rovers were part-timers.
- Andy Lynch controversially sent off.
Review
Shamrock Rovers played well to hold Celtic. Ally Hunter was busy in the Celtic goal. Celtic only began to look serious when Lynch replaced Jimmy Johnstone. Lynch played well, was fast and made for goal. The goal came when Hay played through to Dalglish who flicked the ball onto Lennox who calmly side-footed past the keeper.
Afterwards Jock Stein admitted that a lot of things had gone wrong during the game but that was the reason for playing the pre-season Friendlies. Hay, Murdoch and MacGrain were the best for Celtic.
Steve Murray was subbed with concussion.
Lynch was sent off 3 minutes from time for reacting after he got a boot in the mouth.
