Trivia

  • Whilst this game was going on there was also a closed door game being played at Annfield against Stirling Albion. This was to put those not included in this game, including the veteran first team players through their paces. This meant John stone, Murdoch, Deans, Vic Davidson and Paul Wilson turning out. Everyone had a place to fight for, to convince the Boss that he was the rightful starter in that position.
  • Jim Brogan was recovered and came in at left back with David Hay allegedly out injured, in stepped Jim. The rest of the team was unchanged from the Saturday win over Dunfermiline.
  • Newspapers report that Celtic have declined an offer from Benfica for Jimmy Johnstone to play in Eusebio's testimonial on September 25th.
  • Through to the final of the Drybrough Cup for the third time. The other semi saw Hibernian beat Rangers 2-1 after extra time in a tetchy and unpleasant game.

Review

Celtic overwhelmed Dundee who hardly made an attack worthy of calling.
Brian McLaughlin scores a goal of such brilliance that the stand rises to it’s feet to acclaim him. Running down the right hand side he cuts across the 18 yard box and unleashes a superb left foot shot past Thomson Allan. It was a superb effort from an 18 year old novice. Stein’s new team is now taking shape.
