Trivia
- Dixie Deans was on the way back from his hairline fracture of the jaw. He made a comeback in a Reserve game on the 31st against Dunfermiline.
- Celtic announce Davie Hay is up for transfer.Whilst the pre-season, the Drybrough Cup and the group stage League Cup games had been proceeding Davie Hay had been making his case behind the scenes for a better pay deal. The result was to find himself on the transfer list – or rather when negotiations broke down he asked to go on the transfer list and Celtic duly complied. Tommy Docherty was keen to take him to Manchester Utd in part exchange for ex-Partick Thistle full back Alex Forsyth (who was at that time out of the Man Utd first team).
- Dunfermiline were newly promoted to Division 1.
- The first League game of the season. Back in came Murray, McNeill and Hay who had been rested for the last League Cup group game against Arbroath and out dropped Murdoch, MacDonald and Callaghan, with Tommy going onto the bench with Paul Wilson.
- Stan Anderson, former Rangers and QotS player and Rangers coach took over as manager of Clyde with ex-Celt Jimmy Rowan dropping back to trainer.
Review
Jackie Sinclair scores with the last kick of the ball. The referee immediately blows for full time and does not centre the ball so thousands of fans left the ground thinking it was 3-1 for Celtic and not actually 3-2.
Celtic played well with Hood, Wilson and Dalglish a sharp front three but Connelly and McNeill looked unsure in defence and Brogan was required to bail them out several times.
This was an entertaining game for the fans at a windy East End Park but a close game for all the excitement with four of the five goals coming in the last ten minutes.
Harry Hood got proceedings underway after 20 minutes and then a tough contest followed till the last 10 minutes. Kinnimouth (Mackie is given as goal scorer on some accounts) equalised for the Pars. Then Wilson put Celtic back in front with a header. And pressure from Celtic saw Jim Leishman put through his own goal and with the last kick of the ball Sinclair got a second for Dunfermiline.
