Review
Celtic scored twice late on against a well organised ‘Well side. Motherwell had promised to come and make a game of it and they played well.
Celtic pressed but the Motherwell defense was well organised. After the opening encounters the game settles down to a midfield battle. When Celtic did thread the ball through to the forwards, usually from Dalglish or Connelly they were usually off-target with their shots with Wilson and Deans culprits.
In the second half after a goal-less first, Dalglish hit the bar with a tremendous shot. Motherwell did have the ball in the net but was ruled offside.
Deans was the man who mattered, however, when he sprinted clear to create Wilson’s goal and then scored the second himself.
Motherwell had three players booked.
‘Well keeper Keith McRae signs for Man City in the following days for a record £100,000 fee for a goalkeeper.
