- And so onto the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup. After the rigours of Basle away and Hearts in a tight game Celtic were somewhat depleted. Hunter was definetly out. Williams had lost the boss's trust so it was Denis Connaghan in goal. Danny McGrain had a badly twisted knee so Davie Hay moved back and in came Pat McCluskey.

His last first team appearance was back at the beginning of December and Stein persisted in playing him in the Reserves saying that he still could make it as a first team choice but he needed to up his effort. Review
Motherwell again make life difficult for Celtic and were unlucky not to win the tie. An intense game with neither side prepared to give up.
Harry Hood kept Celtic in the cup with two excellent goals, the first a cracking shot from a Deans knock down and the second a perfect volley after the 'Well defence had failed to clear. Brogan had a fine game supplying both the crosses that lead to the Celtic goals.
The replay is keenly anticipated and will be the seventh time the teams have met this season.
