- On the previous night Celtic defeated Dumbarton 3-2 in a Reserve League match at Boghead. The Celtic team was Williams, McNamara, Quinn, McCool, MacDonald, Welsh, Mulholland, Bone, Ritchie, O'Hara, Lynch. Subs Little and J. Davidson. Andy Ritchie scored Celtic's three goals.
- David Hay and Kenny Dalglish are selected for the Scotland side to face West Germany in an away Friendly. Hay captained the side. Scotland lost 2-1.
Review
Celtic's defence was creaking against Dumbarton. Stein left Hay and Dalglish on the bench as they had played in West Germany with Scotland in midweek.
It was only when Dalglish came off the bench that Celtic began to play like themselves. 2-1 down at half time Dalglish came on for the second half and got the equaliser. Dumbarton though took the lead again and Dixie Deans levelled it from a Dalglish pass.
