- In the International Youth tournament held during the week Celtic Boys Club scooped both the U14 and U17 European Youth Cups.
- UEFA still hummed and hawed over what to do about Athletico Madrid and their behaviour during the European Cup tie at Celtic Park. In the end they failed to ban Athletico Madrid and the tie would go ahead at the Vincente Calderon stadium but without the players sent off who were banned as well as three others.
- Lennox returns to the first team and heads in his 250th Celtic goal. Also in was Jimmy Quinn at left back for Brogan. Dixie Deans returned up front with David Hay rested to the bench and Paul Wilson joining him.
- On the previous night Celtic defeated Morton 7-0 in a Reserve League Match at Celtic Park. The Celtic team was Hunter, J. Davidson, O'Hara, McNamara, McDonald, Little, McLaughlin, Ritchie, V. East Fife opened the scoring against the run of play. However 3 goals in five minutes put Celtic in the driving seat. Dalglish, Hood and Deans are all on top form.
