Review
Referee Bill Mullan was applauded onto the pitch. A first class referee, he had been involved in a car crash 2 years before and had fought his way back to firness.
It was a low key start for the game and Celtic ambled through the first period with it remaining goalless.
The half time talk did the trick.
Steve Murray sends Celtic to Hampden for the League cup final. Paul Wilson sent over a corner which was nodded down by Billy McNeill and up stepped Murray to shoot the ball home.
A few minutes before the goal Ally Hunter produced a brilliant double save to deny Airdrie.
This was drab game although Murray hit the bar with a header after his goal and Hood went close. Generally the attackers misfired with Johnstone missing and Airdrie were allowed too much possession. The one plus out of the game was the performance of Ally Hunter who seemed to be back to his best. The most important player on the pitch thougfh was Stevie Murray who worked tirelessly in midfield for the forwards and was not averse to getting into the thick of it himself.
