- Celtic enter into negotiation with Dumbarton over the transfer of Tom McAdam. Celtic offer Ally Hunter and £20,000 in a deal valued at £50,000 but Hunter refused to go and no deal was done.
- On the same day Celtic defeated Dumbarton 7-0 in a Reserve League Cup match at Celtic Park. The Celtic team was Connaghan, McGrane, Baillie, Hannah, Aitken, Connelly, Little, Casey, Ritchie, Burns, McLean. Subs McCluskey and Innes. The Celtic scorers were Ritchie 3, Burns 2, McLean and Hannah.
- Andy Roxbrough was named as the first ever Scotland international team coach. He was at the time still a contracted player with Clydebank but he would assume his role in 3 months time.
Review
The kick off was delayed by 15 minutes to allow latecomers entry to the ground.
Celtic easily steam rollered Dumbarton at Boghead. Highlights were a rare Danny McGrain goal and a flying header by Kenny Dalglish.
Celtic were ahead in 3 minutes after Wilson made a terrific run on the wing and drew the keeper before releasing Harry Hood to score. Danny McGrain got the second after Lynch spotted him free from a free kick.
In the second half Dalglish added a third. Dumbarton fell apart with little hop of getting back into it two further goals followed from Dalglish and Callaghan and Paul Wilson wrapped it up with two goals before the final whistle
