- With a home leg against European minnows there was the chance for a little experimentation. Ritchie had been lined up but he was out with ‘flu – also Tommy Burns and Bobby Hannah were in line for call ups. Deans and Hood came back in from the start with Lennox out barred from European games and Glavin dropping to the bench which saw the inclusion of George McCluskey and Jim Casey. Jackie McNamara, who was gradually establishing himself in the first team was out with a knee injury.

Celtic started well and Dagsson made two fine saves from Wilson in the first three minutes before the flood gates opened.
