- St Johnstone were rock bottom of the new Premier League.
- The rerorganised team with Murray, Glavin and Lennox that had played against Motherwell started again.
- Jock Stein returned to hospital during the week for a further operation on his injuries sustained in the care crash that kept him out as manager and Sean Fallon in charge of matters on the field. There was also talk of Stein moving upstairs into a general manager's role at Celtic Park.
- Dixie Deans had his two front teeth knocked out but bravely played on until the end. He does not know if he spat them out or swallowed them.
- On the same day Celtic lost 2-0 to St Johnstone in a Reserve League match at Celtic Park. The Celtic team wsa Connaghan, Gourlay, Baillie, Hannah, Aitken, Casey, McCluskey, Wilson, O'Donnell, Burns, Hood. Subs Little and Innes. Henderson scored both of St Johnstone's goals.
- Celtic were drawn against FC Sachsenring Zwickau in the quarter finals of the European Cup Winners Cup. The first round would be at home.
Review
Relegation bound Saints gave their best performance of the season but three times Celtic came back from a goal down to win.
17 – Lambie scores a fine goal after combining with O'Rourke and the ball goes in off a post.
23 – Celtic equalise when Deans backheels Edvaldsson's pass into the path of Dalglish who beats two men and scores with a fine left foot shot.
33 – Thomson scores with a spectacular 30 yarder after Glavin gave away possession in midfield.
45 – Deans equalises after he outjumps MacDonald to a Lynch cross.
46 – Saints in front again after referee Paterson gives a soft penalty for Lynch's tackle on Hotson. Latchford saves Thomson's penalty but Crammond scores the rebound.
70 – Roddy MacDonald scores with a header following a corner to level again.
89 – With only seconds remaining Edvaldsson grabs a dramatic winner with a spectacular flying header.
