- McGrain and Dalglish played for Scotland against Switzerland at Hampden on the Wednesday. Scotland won 1-0. Dalglish was booed throughout and subbed in the second half.

- Glavin had been considered doubtful for the game but made it after a fitness test; Doyle and Casey were still out; McNamara was also out injured with the recurrent knee problem.
- Celtic lose top place to Rangers who win 3-0 against Dundee at Ibrox. Celtic had been top since January.
- On the same day Celtic defeated Dundee Utd 5-0 at Celtic Park in a Reserve League match. The Celtic scorers were O'Donnell 2, Burns, McCluskey and Ritchie.
Review
United are playing for their lives and fight for every ball. A strong wind and bare park also make it a difficult day to bring the ball down and pass.
McAdam's goal near half time was crucial and left Celtic chasing the game. Dalglish equalised with a 25 yard shot but Hall and McAdam made it 3-1 with young Aitken's inexperience in defence now showing.
Dalglish scored with three minutes left to make a fight of it and he had hit the bar earlier. Despite his goals Kenny didn't have his best game but he had virtually no support on a day when Celtic did not perform.
The Celtic fans left in a black mood and now realised that they had lost the initiative in the league race to Rangers.Top of the tabel changed with Celtic losing and Rangers winning
