- On the Wednesday 4th prior to this matcgh the game was said to be in doubt as Penarol had a few problems (more than likely an attempt to force more money out of the team they were due to play – a common ploy by South American clubs playing tours at this time). The problems were said to be down to players and there was a great degree of indecision whethjer the South Americans would arrive in Glasgow at all.

Review
Though skipper Kenny Dalglish took some time to make his contribution, there was a lot of movement and judgement in the play of Danny McGrain, Ronnie Glavin, Andy Lynch and Doyle, who looks like a player determined to prove worth his £90,000 transfer fee.
Celtic gained confidence, realising that Penarol would rather play across the field than directly down it. And soon the Parkhead men had Glavin and Burns pitching balls through to McCluskey, Doyle and the disappointing Paul Wilson, who was replaced in the second half by Bobby Lennox.
In 39 minutes Faral chopped down Doyle inside the box and referee John Paterson rightly gave a penalty. There were arguments, treatment for Doyle, and roars from the crowd before the ball was spotted. the Penarol striker Morena didn't agree with the sitting of the ball, so he moved it, and was booked by the referee. It was fully three minutes after the foul that George McCluskey got the all clear to take the kick and he fairly sizzled the ball low into the net.
There was some petty fouling by the Uruguayans at the edge of their box after this as they tried to stop Celtic one way or another, but eventually Dalglish hammered home a second goal in 65 minutes with the Penarol defence in a dreadful state.
Dalglish, now in full flight, made the third goal with a head flick to the feet of Bobby Lennox, who almost burst the net from eight yards.
