- The second leg. Celtic held a 1-0 draw from the first leg at Cliftonhill.
- A revamped side saw Connaghan in goal with Edvaldsson and Callaghan in the midfield and Wilson and Lennox up front. Stanton and Craig were ineligible. George McCluskey was due to play but picked up an injury in a Reserve match which ruled him out.
- Celtic win 6-0 on aggregate. They will now play Hearts in the semi final, their 13th consecutive League Cup semi final appearance.
- On the Saturday after this game, which was a League-free Saturday due to the World Cup qualifier against Czechoslovakia, Celtic lost 4-1 to Partick Thistle in a Reserve League game at Firhill. Only 7000 turn out on a horrible night of wind and rain. Dalglish and Doyle do the damage with all the goals.
It took Celtic a while to get going and in the opening period Albion Rovers had a good few chances.
In the second half Rovers ran out of puff and were pinned back by Celtic.
