- The match had been originally scheduled to be played at Celtic Park but the pitch their was in the process of being ripped up and replaced.
- Ex Celtic legend Billy McNeill is in the Clyde dug out after recently being appointed as manager.
- Ex-Celt Harry Hood who had just been released by Motherwell, watched the game from the stand. His name was being linked to the managership of Dundee.
- On 27 May Bobby Lennox played for an international select in Tommy Smith of Liverpool's testimonial at Anfield. Lennox scored a hat trick and the game finished 9-9 !
Review
Despite winning a semi final, the final was never played due to fixture congestion, a sign of it's waning importance.
Brian McLaughlin played as an attacking right half and marks his return with a goal. Dalglish at centre forward in what is his last competitive match as a Celt.
