Review

This was the last great Celtic performance under Jock Stein's reign. Celtic deservedly beat the Slavs and had clearly learned the lessons of the last two games against Red Star by defending deeply and attacking swifly on the break. It was their 6th game in 18 days.

Macdonald scored when a corner from Conn rebounded to him. Edvaldsson's goal came from a defense-splitting pass from Paul Wilson.

It was another temperamental affair with Lennox withdrawn by Stein after a kick at Zoran. Celts were delighted to receive the magnificent trophy which was similar to the League cup and Desmond White gleefully pocketed the £20,000 winners cheque.

Celtic looked prepared for the new season but rumours abounded at home that their captain Kenny Dalglish was not happy back home in Glasgow and was transfer bound after he had refused to travel with the squad to the Far East.
