Review
After this defeat Celtic had now lost four consecutive league games. Jock Stein surprised the fans by playing young centre back Ian McWilliams who had recently came from Queens Park. Tom McAdam was fielded at number 8 for his full Celtic debut with new signing John Dowie dropping out of the team.
If Billy McNeill had any mixed feelings about the result then he did not show it after outwitting his mentor, Jock Stein.
Things had looked good for the Celts when Willie Garner deflected Edvaldsson's cross into his own net but Celtic were looking fragile at set pieces as Aberdeen threatened.
Fleming's first goal was fortunate when his shot sneaked in off a post but his winning goal was a brave, close range header from a Harper cross.
Celtic fought till the end and Clark turned a powerful Wilson shot on to the bar. It was their last chance and Stein and the Celtic directors were now under immense pressure to splash out on new signings to replace their much missed striker, Kenny Dalglish. The loss of Dalglish and the loss to injury of Alfie Conn and Pat Stanton all looked to be too much without strengthening. Celtic were second bottom of the league.
