Trivia
- The injured and not fit list wasn't getting any shorter. It was hoped Glavin would make the match and Doyle had a relapse after his cartilage surgery having played in the Second XI Cup quarter final on Thursday night. Alfie Conn was also not fit again with a recurrence of knee trouble. In came Edvaldsson and McAdam (eligible again) and Paul Wilson dropped to the bench. Sneddon was prefderred at right back and indeed was keeping out Joe Filippi who had been bought to take on that role in the absence of McGrain. John Dowie also continued at left back in the absence of Lynch who was still recovering after appendicitis.
- The Celtic Supporters Association reports Dundee United manager Jim McLean to the police at half time for giving Celtic fans a dose of the 'Harvey Smith's' ( V sign) during the first half. McLean does not sit on the bench for the second half but no further action is taken.
- Peter Latchford had just been awarded the Celtic Player of the Year award.
Review
Just for once in this horrid season Celtic get a bit of luck. With United looking the better side David Narey lobs the ball over his own goalie to give Celtic the points.
A niggley game with lots of petty fouling going on from both sides.
The kick off was delayed to allow supporters time to get in the ground. Celtic had a good part of the first half game but could not break United down. Munro was troubled with a leg injury he picked up and the half finished with United on top if anything.
Filippi replaced Munro at half time and Edvaldsson dropped back into defense. Latchford now came into his own making some great saves to keep Celtic in it. Craig should have scored rather than shoot straight at the keeper. Then a break for Celtic when Narey deftly lobbed a pass back over McAlpine's head and into the goal.
