Trivia
- Celtic's second visit to Montrose this season having played a pre-season Friendly back in late July – their first visit since 1939.
- Back in came Ronnie Glavin who had been out trying to recover from a leg injury. New signing Murdo MacLeod was cup tied. Alfie Conn was out with 'flu.
Review
Despite the misleading score line Celtic had three goals disallowed, two of which looked good, and two good penalty claims.
Montrose defended for much of the game. Davie Provan was subbed after 15 minutes after taking several hefty knocks. Montrose broke on 22 minutes and Hair hit a shot which sailed over Baines and into the net. The penalty came when Doyle was hauled down by the goalkeeper.
