Review
Celtic came away feeling the better for this result which will do their confidence a world of good.
Rangers played from the back and were more methodical with Celtic using the wings more. So much so that wingers Provan and Doyle were their best players on the day.
Lynch scored a great goal after inter play with Burns and MacLeod and the pity was they couldn't hang on to the lead longer as Rangers equalised only four minutes later. Edvaldsson punched a Johnstone header over the bar when the ball looked to be going over and Forsyth scored from the resultant penalty.
Both sides were said to be happy with a point at the end.

GLASGOW HERALD REPORT BY JIM REYNOLDS
LUNCHTIME TREAT BY THE OLD FIRM
_________________________________
The Old Firm provided a pleasant change at Hampden on Saturday, a complete change from the 100mph football which has often in the past marred this great Glasgow derby. The usual effort was there of course. but with the accent on skill, Rangers and Celtic gave the 52,000 paying customers a lunchtime treat.
Celtic used two orthodox wingers to provide a welcome change to this sardine tin mentality of the Premier League. Rangers countered by their very effective European game, with patience, discipline and exhilarating breaks from defence.
In many ways it was the perfect match. Celtic had the edge in attack, Rangers much better organised at the back. Both sides created a similar amount of genuine chances and at the end of the day neither deserved to lose.
Rangers sprang a couple of surprises at the start. They had Derek Johnstone up front with Alex Miller at right-back and Sandy Jardine sweeping behind Tom Forsyth. Johnstone had his best match of the season in this particular role and Jardine once again showed he is a defender of the highest class.
Likewise, there was much for Celtic fans to enthuse over. They had three Old Firm debutants – Murdo MacLeod. Davie Provan and Tom McAdam were having their first match at Hampden. Every one of them played well and so did Johnny Doyle, out if the first team for so long.
The best football was played in the first half but it was not until after the interval that the goals came along. Celtic opened the scoring with a brilliant effort involving MacLeod and Andy Lynch. The former Dumbarton player split the Ibrox defence with a perfect pass inside the box and there was Lynch in the open space to steer the ball past Peter McCloy.
Rangers hit back furiously and four minutes later they equalised from the penalty spot. Johannes Edvaldsson handled a Johnstone header from under the crossbar and Alex Forsyth stepped up to score his fourth penalty of the season.
