- Roddie MacDonald was out with an ankle injury picked up against Morton in midweek. Lynch and MacLeod were still out injured.
- New signing Vic Davidson, bought for £30,000 just before the transfer deadline, made his second Celtic debut after signing from Blackpool late on the Friday night. He had to make a dash from Oxford where his side Blackpool were staying overnight.
- Due to the lateness of his signing most Celtic fans inside Easter Road were puzzled when their new number 9 ran on to the field.
- Ronnie Glavin's last appearance for Celtic.Mike Conroy was also back after a long time out this season recovering from a troublesome hamstring injury picked up back in November '78.
- Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-1 in the LCF at Hampden under controversial circumstances.
- Rubstic wins the grand national at Aintree.
- At Celtic Park the Reserves won 4-0 with a trialist getting 2 of the goals and Mackie and Lumsden the others. Bonner, Sneddon, Russell, Lumsden, Young, Duffy, Mackie, Casey, Newman, McAdam, Dowie. Subs Coyne, Weir. (It may be that the trialist was Paul Chalmers who had just been signed).
Review
A bad start leaves Celtic with too much to do.
The Bhoys were a goal down early when they failed to defend a lobbed in corner and Stewart headed home unchallenged and Hibs second goal came when Latchford dropped a simple MacLeod lob and Rae toed it home. Despite fighting back Celtic failed to score till Arthur Duncan gave away a rather silly penalty with ten minutes to play. That set up a frantic finish but Celtic could not find another goal.
Danny McGrain looked back to his old self.
This last game of the month was a bit of a set back and the number of games in hand meant their was much to do.
