- Both Vic Davidson and Davie Provan had picked up knocks on the European trip. George McCluskey was also out injured. McCluskey and Davidson made the bench with Tommy Burns and Johnny Doyle coming in and Roddie MacDonald restored to the centre of defense.
- Tommy Burns sent off for terrible foul on Gordon Strachan. Celtic say he will be dealt with severely (he was severely fined along with Tom McAdam, to a lesser degree when he received a yellow card).
- Burns took his jersey off and looked as if he was set to throw it away but was persuaded to put it back on by his team mates.
- Murdo MacLeod missed a penalty.
- Celtic amazingly win again with 10 men after being a goal down.
- In the Reserve League on the same day Celtic defeated Aberdeen 3-0 at Celtic Park. The Celtic team was Newman, Fillipi, Lynch, Edvaldsson, Duffy, Casey, Newman, Mackie, Nicholas, Weir, Feeney Subs Reid and Halpin. The Celtic scorers were Edvaldsson 2 and Nicholas.
Review
Celtic win bad tempered game. Even the throw ins were fought over. The match was described as a 'disgrace to Scottish football' with 26 fouls committed by each side.
Alex Ferguson claimed Aberdeen were intimidated and that 'Celtic used to let you play football but you can't say that now'.
Celtic came from one down to win. The winning goal came when Lennox cleverly intercepted Clark's throw out from his goal and Doyle raced in to finish off Lennox's cross.
